The entrance from the beach road in the rear looks a wee bit Mediterranean, but the view to the north is definitely the Gulf of Mexico. And the style of the beach house, especially with its rooftop palapa (grass thatch), definitely looks like Yucatán. There´s room on the covered patio for lounging and room for sitting. To one side is a storage closet and an outside shower for washing off after being on the beach.
Inside, there is comfortable and colorful rattan furniture. The owners´ love of sea shells is obvious, with various displays, and baskets filled with shells (please be respectful of the owners´ policy of not allowing children). Toward the kitchen, the dining table has seating for 5, and there are 4 stools at the angled breakfast bar. Attractively painted and tiled, the kitchen has a gas stove and oven, a refrigerator, toaster oven, microwave, blender and coffee maker.* Ceiling fans in all of these areas help the Gulf breezes to keep this beach house cool.
Bedrooms: One bedroom is off to the side of the kitchen. This large room has an individual bed and space for another one (just ask), and there´s also a collapsible cot (closet, oscillating fan), and a ensuite bathroom. The guest bathroom is between the two bedrooms, and has an exterior door for direct access from the Gulf and the beach. The second bedroom is to the rear of the beach house, and is equally as large as the first. Here, there´s a double bed, and room to spare (closet, ceiling fan). There is an ensuite bathroom.
Please note, this beach house is alongside Great Rate Oceanfront, so if you´re traveling with friends or family, the two houses can easily be shared (sleeps 12 with both beach houses).
Located about 20 minutes east of downtown Progreso, you´re only about half that distance to Chicxulub Puerto. It´s great to have a car, and there is off-street parking. If you´re on foot, there´s a walk of about 5 minutes out to the main road where you can flag down a collective cab.
